RAINE Work In Progress

This page describes changes, from several programmers, that have been submitted to the RAINE team. Feel free to use any information or screenshots present here, on your site.

Keep in mind, that altough these are submitted changes to the RAINE source code, they might not be included in the next official release for several reasons, for example, some may break existing drivers, contain a serious bug that will cause RAINE to crash, etc.

Some more raine ?
Imagine some of the best 68k games not yet in raine, but with cd-quality music to go with them ?
And about 90 more games of this kind in one new version ?

Progress...
Here is what the new game selection looks like :

In short, it tries to make the gui transparency usefull by showing a picture of the currently selected game (the picture is taken from the screenshot directory). So it replaces the aging snapshots of the allegro version. It's a very old idea I had when Zaxxon created the snapshots at first.
The size of the font on the picture is entirely optional, I chose quite a small one here.
It's not finished obviously, still no rom directory selection for now ! I am thinking about adding some crazy stuff like downloading a picture from the web if it's not available in the screenshots directory...

Also I have added scale3x to the software blits. Now scaling can be automatic, it allows raine to select the best scaling method available for the current video mode. It allows me to play bubble boble fullscreen in a 1024x768 framebuffer console in linux ! Smiley

Still a lot to do, but some nice progress anyway...

For the next version...
Raine now supports hardware scaling for the game screen (if your video card supports hardware yuv overlays, but don't worry most modern video cards do), so you can now resize the window on the fly, even during game play, and the game adapts without loosing cpu power. Also you can choose to fix the aspect ratio of some old arcade games which are close to 4:3 to make them to be exactly 4:3 now without loosing cpu power.
If you want to use classical blits instead, there are new hardware accelerated blits for this also.
The gui is completely new, with transparency, true type support (dynamic choice of font to match the screen size). Well for now it's just starting to work so many options are missing, it's just a start.
And there is a new control system, with no limitation on the number of joysticks supported, and more efficient than the old one.

Oh and there is no allegro anymore, no bugs related to allegro finally.

Hummm new savegame format also because the old one was depending on allegro. The new one saves much faster and produces much smaller files, but you won't be able to load old savegames at all.

So this version will be only for linux & windows, there is no sdl in dos. It's still early work in progress, but it already looks very impressive, so I decided to post about it!

Fix Eight Bootleg
I was about to add some screenshots of Fix Eight when I remembered that the backgrounds are totally broken! One thing lead to another...

1) The listinfo output now shows game status as 'good', 'imperfect', or 'preliminary'.

2) The games pages now show this game status, for example, Fix Eight is 'imperfect':

3) Added the bootleg version of Fix Eight:

There's a diff patch for raine-0.43.2 here:

Bezel + emudx
Bezels might not be very usefull, but they can be very nice, especially when combined with emudx support ! ;-)
